Workshop Description
Cognitive Load
Theory: The "single most important thing for teachers to know”
Interest in cognitive load theory has exploded in recent years, with educationalist Dylan Wiliam describing the theory as the "single most important thing for teachers to know." More than just an abstract idea, cognitive load theory is a framework of
practical recommendations that teachers across all subjects can use to optimize student learning. The session presenter will engage participants with visuals and storytelling around the teaching strategies recommended by cognitive load theory, draw
connections between the theory and real classroom scenarios, and conclude with activities that have teachers applying their new understandings to redesign conventional instructional materials that often lead to cognitive "overload."

The Fall Educators Conference is NWAIS's signature event. It brings together teachers from across the region to connect with national thought leaders as well as each other for a rich day of reflection and learning.
One of the pieces of feedback that we hear each year is "There is so much great content, and you can only see a small portion that day."That is why we are bringing back the “stars” of the conference -- the highest rated breakout sessions -- to
offer their sessions to the entire NWAIS community in a virtual format.
This initiative is rooted in the best parts of NWAIS. Educators learning together and from each other, showcasing the great work going on in member schools and the expertise right here in our region. We hope you’ll join us in watching these
stars shine bright – sign up for a session today!
