Nestled near the base of Utah's majestic Wasatch mountains, The Waterford School which sits on 50 acres, reflects the grandeur of its dramatic setting. The school's tradition is liberal arts. The focus is on each student learning. Here, expectations are high, the curriculum rich and the scholarship engaging and renewing.

Founded in 1981, the Waterford School quickly has established a tradition of excellence in education. At Waterford, the process of learning--no matter the discipline--engages its students. They are immersed in the Liberal Arts tradition, personally applying that focus with progressive involvement in science labs, history and English seminars, foreign language discussion groups, art and music courses, computer labs, and on the playing field. This intensity of purpose prompted the U.S. Office of Education to name the Waterford School as "one of the top twelve schools in the country for academic and technological excellence." Upper School students are taught to be self-reflective in their learning, to acquire a repertory of ways of learning, and to deploy them across subject matter that ranges widely and is freshly challenging. In the process students learn the merits of primary sources, class discussions, and personal discipline. A majority of students in Classes X, XI and XII take Honors classes; many enroll in Advanced Placement courses, which culminate in the A.P. examinations. The Fine Arts also receive strong emphasis. Students may sample widely or focus on a particular specialty in the arts. In every case, the teachers are specialists in the fields they teach, from choral music to strings or band, watercolor to oil painting and ceramics, photography to drama and dance. This much is certain. When they graduate, Waterford students are primed for lifelong learning and ready to contribute that learning for the common good.
